A strange ceremony took place at the Emir of Kano’s palace yesterday when 14 people publicly confessed to having carried out armed robbery operations on the Kano-Falgore road and also said they had repented. They said their repentance had to do with the holy nature of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting. The confessed robbers were taken to Emir Ado Bayero’s palace by Placo Community Association, an NGO that said it specializes in reformation of youths in the state told the emir that the Ramadan period influence their decision to repent.Leader of the 14 repentant robbers, Bako Idris, promised that they would never engage in any acts of robbery again. He said most of them were lured into banditry as a result of poverty and lack of guidance.
