The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called on presidential candidate Sen. John McCain to appoint a Muslim campaign advisor and a Muslim White House aide if elected in 2008. CAIR’s request came following McCain’s remarks that America is a “Christian” nation and that he would not be comfortable with a Muslim in the White House.

Saylor said Muslim advisors could offer McCain accurate information on issues related to Islam and the American Muslims.  McCain’s stated concerns about a Muslim presidential candidate come in the wake of comments by Rep. Peter King (R-NY) who said “we have too many mosques in this country.” King is an advisor to Rudy Giuliani, who is also running for president.
