Saudi Arabia has launched an official website to publish Islamic religious edicts (fatwas). The Riyadh-based Presidency for Scientific Research and Religious Edicts (Dar Al-Ifta) has set up the website (www.alifta.com). The site provides quick access to the fatwas issued by Dar Al-Ifta, an affiliate of the Council of Senior Islamic Scholars headed by Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Alu Al Sheikh. Visitors to the new website will be able to ask questions on various topics and get replies from Dar Al-Ifta, which is comprised of prominent Islamic scholars, including Sheikh Muhammad Saleh bin Othaimeen and Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Alu Al Sheikh.
The site features fatwas issued by prominent Islamic scholars. It offers a large stock of fatwas that are already issued in print in two big volumes by the members of the Presidency, in addition to comprehensive biographies of each of them. The site has devoted a section for the fatwas of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Baz, the former grand mufti who died in 1999. This includes a wealthy record of all fatwas issued by Bin Baz in his famous interactive radio show “Light on the Road”.
