More than 4500 Bangladeshis will perform Haj this year. Of these, 5,583 pilgrims will leave for Makkah under the government scheme while another 40,000 will perform the ritual under private tour operators. The pilgrims will start leaving for Saudi Arabia on November 12. This was disclosed at an inter-ministerial meeting on Haj management held in the Religious Affairs Ministry here, according to an official announcement. Religious Affairs Secretary Mohammed Ataur Rahman presided over the meeting. Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Sheikh Altaf Ali and senior officials were present.

The Haj flights will start operation on November 12 and end on December 14. The return flights will commence from December 23 and end on January 24, 2008. Meanwhile, uncertainty still looms over hassle-free Haj performance by Bangladeshi pilgrims as the private Haj-facilitating agencies could not rent houses for them in Makkah and Madinah. The review meeting was apprised of this situation.
