The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has met with the President of Finland Tarja Halonen during her official visit to the Kingdom here on Monday. They discussed various issues of mutual concern including cooperation between the OIC and different European Institutions such as the OSCE and the EU especially in working towards bringing peace and stability in the Middle East as well as in combating all forms of intolerance and discrimination. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to work under the UN framework to advance the causes of the Alliance of Civilization.

Tarja Halonen expressed her keenness to learn about the OIC activities especially in the field of Women and Children and assured of her country’s all possible cooperation in this regard. The secretary general briefed the President on the reform program of his Organization and its proactive role in Political, Economic, Social, Cultural, Humanitarian, Science & Technology and Research & Development fields. Prof. Ihsanoglu brought to the notice of the Finnish president the plight of the Palestinian people living in deplorable condition in Gaza. He appealed to her to extend them the helping hand in the name of humanity and not to be biased for any political reason.
