Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is due to visit Beijing over the weekend to lobby China for intensified UN sanctions against Iran. The visit follows US unilateral sanctions imposed on Iran Thursday. However, US attempts to slap third set of United Nations sanctions were held up by China and Russia. China’s Foreign Ministry on Friday criticized the new U.S. sanctions, saying “dialogue and negotiations are the best approach to resolving the Iranian nuclear issue.”

The Israeli embassy in Beijing Friday said: “Tzipi Livni is due to arrive on Sunday and leave Tuesday after meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao and her Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.”…Yang Jiechi and other Chinese officials have reiterated that China would not support further sanctions from the UN Security Council.
