Former Pakistani prime minister and leader of the largest opposition party, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Benazir Bhutto, has called on people to take to the streets and demand the restoration of democracy.

…The Pakistani daily, Dawn, said that Bhutto had declared her rally on 9 November in Rawalpindi would now be a show of protest, and not part of the election campaign as announced earlier. The PPP leader said her party would not attend the National Assembly session on Wednesday as she believed the present assemblies were only there to strengthen dictatorship. Instead, she said her party leaders and activists would hold a demonstration outside the Parliament soon after the start of the assembly session.
