Republican front-runner Rudolph Giuliani has secured the support of television evangelist Pat Robertson, the founding father of the religious right, for his White House bid.

“The overriding issue before the American people is the defense of our population from the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists,” Robertson told a joint press conference with Giuliani on Wednesday, November 8, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP). “We need a leader with a bold vision who is not afraid to tackle the challenges ahead,” he added.Giuliani said the confidence of Robertson “means a lot.” “His experience and advice will be a great asset to me and my campaign,” he added.

…This scared the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest US Muslim advocacy group. “It is truly disturbing that a presidential candidate of any party would accept the endorsement and seek the advice of a person with such a clear record of anti-Muslim bigotry,” Corey Saylor, the Legislative Director of CAIR, said in a statement mailed to IslamOnline.net.

Robertson has earned notoriety for his scathing attacks on Islam, Prophet Muhammad and Muslims. He has called Islam the “religion of the slavers” and described Muslims as “satanic” and “worse than the Nazis”. He said the Qur’an was a “fraudulent” and Prophet Muhammad “an absolute wild-eyed fanatic, a robber and a brigand…a killer”. Robertson believes Americans who embrace Islam exhibit “insanity” and advise against appointing Muslims to government positions.
