Nandigram massacre will be raised in Parliament. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has pointed out that majority of the people killed in the struggle, ongoing for the last 11 months, have been Muslims. The Left Front had prevented the issue being raised at Parliament on the pretext that it was a state law and order problem and cannot be discussed in the Parliament. Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta had said “Nandigram is an issue to be discussed and debated, but in the West Bengal Assembly, not in Parliament,” reported.

…Meanwhile, a human rights panel visited Nandigram on Thursday in order to assess the law and order situation.The team of six members headed by senior superintendent of police S.P. Singh. They talked to the people from the villages in East Midnapore. They also held a meeting with the local administration to assess the involvement or compliance of the police and the local administration in the violence.

East Midnapore superintendent of police, S.S. Panda said “The NHRC team went to the affected areas and talked to the people. They also went to the relief camps and inquired after their problems,” reported IANS.They have also asked the West Bengal government to submit a report about the condition in Nandigram within ten days. The Union government has also been requested to take necessary steps to ensure peace and to submit an action report in two weeks. The situation in Nandigram, however, remained tense with reports of sporadic violence filtering in. Leaders of Bhumi Uchchhed Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) said “”We are facing threat every day.” Reported the Times of India.
